about

So this whole album came about in response to the idea of performing on Sheffield's Fright Night (27.10.13) - ultimately that's two or three people and the recordings have taken on a life of their own. This track got it's Initial inspiration from the tone of Sam and the Pharoes Little Red Riding Hood.. Mikolai Stoma a friend and incredible composer (avant guarde) from my days in Poland used to sing it - it sounded so creepy. Then last year I searched for the original then I realised that the song, wasn't quite about a vicious big bad wolf at all, but a teenager trying to get the trust of a girl.. not really creepy at all..
however, for me the opening line is still really really catchy and so it came into my head this year. With the lovely simple and memorable bassline (standard) I thought it would work really well on the streets but it needed new words. First I carried on the red riding hood theme, but now it's transmogrified into something that is actually directly addressing all those dressed up kids on the streets trying to be scary.. I've left elements of voices saying scary things..some of which were bits of a panto written years ago: www.scribd.com/liz_price_10/documents.These voices just create the atmosphere of people plotting evil acts.. in a kind of pantomime exaggerated way!)

PS I have also realised that the "Hey there" idea is also reminiscent of a game/chant we played and the kids loved, when I was a leader in CISV (Children's International Summer Villages) which takes each kid in turn addressed by everyone else there chanting

Hey there ...... , you're a real cool cat
You gotta bit of this and a bit of that
So don't be afraid of the Bogey Man
Just stand up and sugar as fast as you can.

For more details of this chant and other such chants, games etc (suitable for children of all different nationalities/languages) of to find out more about the charity CISV :http://www.cisv.org

lyrics

Hey there kid you're looking good
with your scary mask and your spooky hood..
But are you sure you're not scared
walking through these streets alone..?
